Hello! I have the joy of serving Community Covenant as the High School Associate Youth director. Hailing from Excelsior, MN, it is a gift to begin my post-graduation ministry in Alaska! I have deep roots in the Covenant Church (and fully understand/embrace its entwined web of connections☺), and a passionate love for youth ministry. This past May, I graduated from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, with a degree in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies. My heart for youth ministry was established through multiple summers serving Covenant Pines Bible Camp in McGregor, MN, and Covenant Bible Camp in Unalakleet, AK. I grew up attending Excelsior Covenant Church and interned with Maple Grove Covenant this past year. My passions include walking with and loving people, embracing the beauty of the outdoors (skiing, hiking, running), cultivating my creativity, studying God’s Word, trying new recipes, and creating/listening to music. My prayer and desire is to guide/equip students through the hope of Jesus and a Biblical foundation on which to base their lives. Youth Ministry UpdateOur youth ministry year is in full swing, and we are filled with prayerful anticipation for the weeks to come. One of the most difficult adjustments we are facing this year is approaching ministry in the midst of a global pandemic
(as you all are well aware). We (Mike and Katie) cherish our students deeply, and care for their whole being (relationally, physically, and spiritually). In light of this, we are striving to be creative in the ways we approach youth community this year. We are moving away from the entertainment fanfare and embracing intentional discipleship with our students. The plans and ideas for this year are constantly changing and evolving. Although we would love to provide a concrete plan/vision for this year, our vision changes just as rapidly as information about COVID-19! But this year, you can anticipate a re-centering of relationships, God’s Word, and discipleship. Earlier this month (Oct. 3-4), we had the gift of embracing our youth community in God’s creation at Chickaloon! Our fall retreat centered around this question: can we trust the Bible? Our discussions were rich with questions, wisdom, mystery, and the Holy Spirit’s guidance! Through many shenanigans, time for reflection, awesome teaching, and simple moments, we were able to share in God’s goodness.
