Week 2:  The Wonder of the Light

- Prepare your candle, lighter, and Scripture.
- Turn off all the lights. Sit in the stillness of the darkness for a few minutes. Notice your thoughts and feelings as you dwell in darkness...is there a heaviness? A sense of fear? Feelings of worry or doubt or longing?
- Light the candle. Take a few minutes to dwell in the warmth and the wonder of the light. What is the effect of the light? How does it illuminate the room, your thoughts, and your heart?
- God’s light has the ability to produce a sense of wonder and reverence within us. Bring this wonder as worship to the presence of God.

Scripture Passages: Luke 2:8-20, bonus scripture: Psalm 139:1-18
- A lot of us feel unworthy or unqualified, but God’s love isn’t a mechanical love. His love delights. God is especially fond of his image bearers. He sees delight in each person, as his created beings.
- Mary was chosen...what kind of human emotions could Mary have experienced? Yet, in the midst of her human emotion, she expressed absolute trust in the God she knows.
- Of all the people and places God could have used to herald his arrival, He chose shepherds tending flocks in His creation. God chooses unlikely people and unlikely places to show His favor. He is HOPE for ALL people.
- The angels erupt in worship. Long had they waited and watched. This was THE moment when the Divine took on human flesh and entered our story. The promised one has come! What attributes in Him do you see that fill your heart with wonder?

Blessing Jar: What are the blessings in my life that bring wonder and joy? Write these on a piece of paper and place them in the blessing jar.
Reflection Questions: What beauty and character do we recognize in the created nature surrounding us? Will you allow yourself to connect to God’s love and intent for you? How are you wonderfully made?
Songs of Reflection: Hark the Herald Angels Sing and This is my Father’s World
