POSITION SUMMARY
The Children’s Ministry Director provides vision and leadership for Community Covenant Church’s ministry to children from age three through fifth grade. This role leads Sunday and midweek children’s ministries, partners with parents and families, develops volunteers and emerging leaders, and cultivates environments where children can know Jesus, grow in faith, and experience the love of God.​

Primary focus: Children’s discipleship, family partnership, volunteer development, and the overall health and direction of children’s ministry​

RELATIONSHIP TO MISSION
The Children’s Ministry Director helps advance CCC’s mission by creating environments where children are known, loved, taught Scripture, and invited to follow Jesus.

This role also partners with parents and develops volunteers so that the spiritual formation of children becomes the shared work of families and the church rather than the responsibility of staff alone.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Children’s Discipleship and Family Ministry
  • Provide overall leadership for the discipleship of children from age three through fifth grade.
  • Plan and oversee Sunday morning, midweek, summer, and special children’s ministry opportunities.
  • Select, evaluate, and oversee curriculum that is biblically grounded, age appropriate, engaging, and aligned with CCC’s mission and theology.
  • Build relationships with parents and caregivers and help equip families for discipleship at home.
  • Cultivate ministry environments where children are safe, welcomed, known, and encouraged to grow in their relationship with Jesus.
Volunteer Recruitment, Development, and Care
  • Recruit, train, schedule, encourage, and support children’s ministry volunteers.
  • Build a healthy volunteer culture where people feel known, equipped, supported, and valued.
  • Identify and develop emerging leaders who can take increasing responsibility within the ministry.
  • Help volunteers grow not only in what they do, but as followers of Jesus.
Ministry Oversight and Collaboration
  • Provide vision and direction for the overall children’s ministry of CCC.
  • Continually evaluate curriculum, ministry environments, systems, and practices and thoughtfully adapt as the needs of children, families, and the church change.
  • Stay engaged with developing best practices in children’s ministry, family discipleship, volunteer development, and child safety.
  • Oversee ministry planning, communication, budgeting, scheduling, and safety practices.
  • Collaborate with pastors and other ministry leaders as part of the larger staff team and mission of CCC.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES
  • Deeply committed to Jesus, the authority of Scripture, and the spiritual formation of children.
  • Warm and relational, with a genuine love for children and families.
  • Able to recruit, encourage, equip, and develop volunteers and emerging leaders.
  • Organized and dependable while remaining flexible and responsive to ministry needs.
  • Curious and teachable, with a desire to continue learning and growing in healthy ministry practices.
  • A collaborative team player who contributes to a healthy staff culture.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Experience serving or leading in children’s ministry, family ministry, Christian education, or a related ministry context.
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and caring for volunteer teams.
  • Experience planning or overseeing ministry programs and curriculum.
  • Ability to think both pastorally and strategically about children’s ministry.
  • A bachelor’s degree in ministry, education, child development, theology, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent relevant ministry and leadership experience.
