Monterrey Reflections
Theresa Pound was one of ten people who traveled to Monterrey, Mexico this past August to serve at a VBS in partnership with our friends Lisandro and Patricia Restrepo at the Family Foundation. Theresa was recently asked, "How would you say you have continued to be impacted by your participation in the Monterrey project?" Here is her response:
I know a little more about the grandness of God... just how big he really is. It was awesome to experience the joy of Jesus with other people of another culture. Their Jesus is my same Jesus. And Jesus really does love everyone... no matter where they come from or where they've been.
I have made some dear friendships with women I otherwise would not have had the pleasure of meeting or getting to really know. They are my sisters in Christ who I can share anything with and not feel judged. These women have helped me with problems and concerns and have prayed with me. I cherish these friendships.
I have also come to realize that we must honor and serve God in everything we do. My mission trip now is right here at home. My mission is to serve God through positive and encouraging interactions with my students and with my friends. That's the probably the biggest thing that has stayed with me. I strive to have a servant's heart every day, and being proactive about it has really strengthened my relationship with Christ. I know how much he loves me and I desperately want to show him my love too. Mission work is all about serving God. Whether it's a distant or local mission, our biggest challenge is to continue serving God where we are in our lives right now. When we strive to please God, he draws us even closer to him. And boy, when He pulls you close, you feel his overwhelming love and can't help but continue trying to do his will, to please him, and to continue the relationship.
