Mission Life ~ Heagy Family ~ YWAM ~ Skein, Norway
This must be what they call: transition
It's hard to believe it's already been a month since we made Skien our home. In some ways, this has instantly felt like home in our hearts and yet, the transition has been slow-going (we are still in temporary housing, until the 1st of July). What we DO know is that God has called us to encourage and disciple the 30+ YWAMers here. We've spent the first weeks familiarizing ourselves with the ministries here and will be participating in a youth camp as well as a mission trip to Eastern Europe this summer. This upcoming week we're both getting the opportunity to debrief students returning from their outreach. We're looking forward to building relationships here.
A nation for all nations
The most meaningful interaction we've had as a family, so far, has been to political refugees. People as young as 6 come to Norway from places like Iraq, Sudan and Afghanistan. Most come alone in their teen years, leaving families behind, and are expected to live quite alone here. Many are unschooled, traumatized by war and are struggling to make lives for themselves. We hope to regularly spend time with some of these precious people and infuse the love ofJesus into their lives. We look forward to making a difference in Skein and abroad. Please pray for divine appointments with people.
The below photos from left to right:
Practical Days: Each Wednesday is a practical work day at the base. The 120+ year old prison(YWAM base) relies primarily on wood for heat. Brian chopped for about 7 hours today!
Kafe Motta: The girls have loved working in the base's weekly cafe intended to love the lost in Skien. They serve up lattes with the YWAM staff while we visit with partrons, playing cards or chatting.
Reboot: This is a multi-media event designed to reach the youth of Norway. It's a creative way to draw unsaved kids into relationship with Jesus. Janell has sung and Brian has preached at this.
